Patakuri Society believes in integrated development strategy with bottom-up participatory approach and management frame work based on people's felt need. Recently Patakuri Society has attained the age of 21 years. Over the period it has gradually expanded its micro finance activities through 12 branches in 333 villages, 54 unions and 11 Upazilas of 3 districts. Patakuri Society worked with PKSF, IDCOL, Bangladesh Bank.
Microfinance program is a global pioneer, providing small, collateral-free loans and financial services to the unbanked and low-income communities, helping nearly 30 million people in Bangladesh engage in income-generating activities. In line with that, Patakuri Society is running a microfinance program with the aim of improving the quality of life of the local poor community, creating employment opportunities, and making them self-reliant.

The right to clean water and sanitation is not only a fundamental human right—it is an essential foundation for human capital, economic productivity, and public health. While significant progress has been made in reducing open defecation in Bangladesh, millions of people in rural areas are still deprived of access to safely managed water and sanitation facilities. To address this gap, Patakuri Society, with the support of PKSF, is actively working on the Water, Sanitation, and Hygiene for Human Capital Development under the BD Rural WASH for HCD project.
Bangladesh is one of the fastest growing economies and is expected to become the 24th largest economy in the world by 2030 (NHDR 2022, ERD). The informal sector forms the backbone of Bangladesh’s economy, accounting for the vast majority of employment. However, informal workers and micro-entrepreneurs frequently face structural vulnerabilities, limited access to formal credit, and sharp shocks—such as those triggered by the COVID-19 pandemic. To bridge this gap, the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF), in collaboration with the World Bank, launched the Recovery and Advancement of Informal Sector Employment (RAISE) project. Operating as a trusted Partner Organization (PO) under PKSF, the Patakuri Society implements this vital economic initiative at the grassroots level, driving recovery, productivity, and job creation in urban and peri-urban areas.The overall objective of the project implemented by PKSF is to enhance the access to earning opportunities for low-income youth, including COVID-affected youth in urban and peri-urban areas.
For low-income and marginalized families in rural Bangladesh, a sudden illness or chronic health problem can trigger a devastating financial crisis. Out-of-pocket health costs such as doctor’s fees, diagnostics, and expensive medicines often force families to deplete their savings or take on large loans, pushing them deeper into poverty. To break this cycle, the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) has introduced structured community-based health interventions, such as component-based health interventions and specialized health programs, as part of its core human development frameworks (such as the ENREACH program). As a dedicated Partner Organization (PO) of PKSF, the Patakuri Society implements these community-based health interventions directly at the grassroots level of the organization’s microfinance program, shifting the focus from costly curative treatments to accessible and community-based preventive health care.
Poverty is rarely just about a lack of income; it is a multi-dimensional challenge involving education gaps, poor health, social vulnerability, and limited resource access. To tackle these interconnected issues at the household level, the Palli Karma-Sahayak Foundation (PKSF) launched its flagship holistic initiative: ENRICH (Enhancing Resources and Increasing Capacities of Poor Households towards Elimination of their Poverty). As an active Partner Organization (PO) of PKSF, the Patakuri Society implements the ENRICH program across its operational areas in Bangladesh, driving comprehensive, community-led sustainable development.
The Improved Cook Stove (ICS) Program, led by the Infrastructure Development Company Limited (IDCOL), is one of the most successful clean energy interventions in Bangladesh. Organizations like the Patakuri Society play a critical role as Partner Organizations (POs) on the ground to make this national transition happen. IDCOL does not manufacture or install these stoves directly. Instead, the program is implemented through a decentralized network of 76 Partner Organizations (POs) operating across 61 districts. As an implementing partner, organizations like the Patakuri Society are the engine of the program. Their responsibilities typically include:
Overseeing decentralized, upazila-level production centers that manufacture the Tier 3 stoves using local resources. Distribution & Installation: Managing the logistics of getting the stoves into rural and low-income households. Awareness & Training: Educating communities on the health and economic benefits of moving away from traditional stoves, and training users on proper maintenance. In return, IDCOL provides these grassroots organizations with institutional development grants, technical assistance, and policy guidance to ensure they can scale their operations sustainably.
