Background Story

PATAKURI is a tiny NGO aimed at sustainable micro finance organization.
The organization started in the year 2000 and that active activities had started at that time well. Now it is the fact that the Registration authority had provided us the registration.
Patakuri Society is a non-profit, non-partisan and non-governmental development organization devoted to the well-being of the marginalized people (poor, women & the ethnic minorities) of Bangladesh. It came in to being in 1999 in response to the educational need of the out-of-school children. By the year 2000, Patakuri Society emerged as a leading NGO in the provision of non-formal education for the children, adolescent and the adults.In recognition of its contribution to non-formal education, Patakuri Society was assigned to carry out pilot testing of the post-literacy and continuing education program in Moulavibazar Sadar upa-zila of Moulavibazar district.
The nation-wide post-literacy and continuing education program of the government of Bangladesh largely drawn on the experience of Patakuri Society. Now Patakuri Society has been providing various development services to different target groups in different parts of the country. In the year 2002, Patakuri Society entered in the domain of sanitation and water supply. Under the program it carried out social mobilization activities in Sreemongol upa-zila under the district Moulavibazar to create demand for sanitation and safe drinking water. The social mobilization effort raised the coverage of sanitation from 15% to over 50% within 2 years. Other domains of intervention are; elimination of child labor from the hazardous occupations, food security program for the marginal & small farm households, basic education for the urban working children, empowerment of women, agricultural extension and piped water supply in rural area. Patakuri Society has been working in Moulavibazar district since 2000 with the opening of literacy centers in 5 upa-zilas of the district.
